Meet Our Governors

What do Governors do?

Governors have a vital role in helping to guide the overall strategic direction of the school. Governors do not get involved in the day to day running of the school as that is the responsibility of the Headteacher and her school management team. Governors meet all together twice per term at a Full Governing Body meeting. There are various subcommittees and working parties that Governors are also involved in and these meet regularly throughout the year. Governor duties include helping to set the strategy, policies and objectives for the school. They challenge and support decisions made by the school management team. Governors approve the school budget and review progress against it throughout the year. They are also directly involved in the appointment of staff.

Who we are

South Wonston Primary School Governing body is made up of representatives from staff, the local authority, parents and members of the community.  Our diverse backgrounds give us a wide range of experience and views, enabling us to make informed decisions about the school collectively.

We welcome and value feedback from parents, so please do come and speak to us at school events, or we can be contacted via the school office.

Julie Amies - Chair of Governors

Julie has a firm belief that a child’s physical and mental wellbeing forms the building blocks for them to thrive in their education. This extends into her professional life as a Chief Executive of a Charity, Energise Me, which works across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to tackle the things that prevent active lifestyles.

When her eldest daughter started school at South Wonston Primary, she wanted to support her education by volunteering. She started on the PTA and was then first elected as a Parent Governor in 2000. She has served on every committee and chaired both the Curriculum and Standards Committee as well as the Full Governing Body over her time.
